FRASER SOCKEYE SEC. 35(1) FISHERIES

The Purpose of this workshop is to:

  • Examine the interest and capacity Marine and Approach First Nations have in developing a framework to guide sockeye fisheries and sharing plans amongst each other; and,

  • Examine how the diversity and behavior of Fraser sockeye can inform the development of a sockeye sharing plan.

Information shared at the workshop will be compiled and summarized by the FSMC and then reviewed by Marine and Approach Nations during a follow-up virtual meeting. Once reviewed a regional presentation will be developed and shared at a Tier 1 session during the 2026 Fraser Forums. The FSMC will use both the workshop and Tier 1 sessions to inform a report to DFO about regional and collective capacity and interests in the development of a First Nations-led Fraser sockeye fisheries plan. Please note this work will contribute to a scoping report about the possibility and interests of Fraser Nations and does not represent action on any of the mandated activities on the FSMC workplan.
